Science Alive!

Mrs. Begley

"Let's discover the little critters of our world! Do you remember how it felt the first time you touched a slippery, juicy insect and how you were grossed out and amazed all in the same time? Our classroom needs to be able to get a hands-on feel on how insects grow and develop and how they can impact our world in both positive and negative ways.

My students are some of the most scientifically motivated students I have ever worked with in all my years of teaching. They absolutely love Science and attend a Math, Science & Technology School in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. My students come from a very high poverty area, and we have many ELL students in our classroom. We also have students from all different cultures, ethnicities, and races. Our classroom is very diverse in cultures and the types of learners."

My Project

"This donation will truly change my students' lives for the better because my students will get the chance to see how insects evolve from something completely different than what they hatch into from their egg. My students will get to see the full life cycle of real insects and how these stages are important for all insect's survival. My students will also get to participate in hands-on activities that will help illustrate in more detail the positives and possible negatives insects play in our world. My students benefit most from real-world relevant learning, and this donation will only excite my students more to want to get their hands dirty and learn all they can about insects.

More importantly, these books, centers, and games will provide them with more detailed information than what our curriculum already provides. This will help challenge those who need to be challenged and provide support for those needing a little extra support. Science is their passion, and this donation will provide the best possible chance for my students to fully understand insects and their life cycle.

This donation will not only make a difference in my current classroom, but my future classes to come. I am currently being trained for project-based learning in my classroom. It is our school's goal to become a project-based school within the next year. This donation will provide assistance in making that goal come full circle. I am passionate about Science and project-based learning, and I know this donation will help my students and myself learn about insects and their life cycles in a fun, enriching, hands-on, relevant, and interactive way!

My students need 3 insects books and centers."
